1. Background and Rationale
Artificial Intelligence (AI) has the potential to significantly improve healthcare by enhancing diagnostics, supporting clinical decision-making, and streamlining workflows across diverse healthcare settings. However, its adoption in routine practice remains limited due to technical, ethical, legal, and trust-related challenges. The Compass AI project addresses these barriers by developing evidence-based guidelines and practical strategies to support the safe, effective, and equitable deployment of AI in healthcare across Europe. Central to this effort is a multidisciplinary Community of Experts, complemented by a Community Advisory Board (CAB), which provides strategic direction and oversight of project activities.

2. Purpose, Objectives and Scope of Work
The CAB is established to provide strategic guidance on project implementation and to serve as a forum for consultation and dissemination.
As a CAB member you will provide feedback on project activities, including the development of deployment guidelines, recommendation and roadmaps, educational materials, and the interactive digital tool. Participation in the CAB is voluntary. No financial compensation is provided.
3. Engagement and Frequency
Virtual Quarterly CAB meetings
You will be invited to quarterly online CAB meetings to provide strategic guidance, ensure alignment with project objectives. Estimated time: ~1 hour/meeting
Annual Consortium Meeting (optional)
You will be invited to the annual consortium meetings. Estimated time: ~1 day for Consortium Meeting participation
Online events (optional)
Online events will be organized to present the findings of the focus working group discussion. Estimated time: ~1 hour/meeting
4. Activities and Methods
As a member of the CAB, you are invited to contribute actively throughout the project lifecycle.
The engagement will include the following activities:
- Provide strategic guidance, ensure alignment with project objectives.
- Provide feedback on project activities, including the development of deployment guidelines, educational materials, and the interactive digital tool.
- Support the development of the recommendations and roadmap. This includes recommendations for regulatory frameworks, infrastructure needs, funding mechanisms, and change management approaches.
- Support the development and dissemination of final policy briefs and recommendations targeted at European and national policymakers, including concrete steps for implementation and scaling of AI deployment in healthcare systems.
5. Duration and Timeline
The mandate will commence upon acceptance of these Terms of Reference and is expected to conclude by the project end on September 30, 2029.
The mandate may be extended if necessary (e.g. in case of project extension).
6. Withdrawal and Termination
You may withdraw from the Community at any time by notifying the Consortium in writing.
Confidentiality and Data Protection
You acknowledge that, in the course of participation in the Community Advisory Board, you may receive or have access to confidential information, including but not limited to technical data, research results, strategic plans, and any other information designated as confidential by the disclosing party (“Confidential Information”).
You agree to:
- maintain the confidentiality of such information and not disclose it to any third party without prior written consent of the disclosing party;
- use the Confidential Information solely for the purpose of fulfilling their advisory role within the project;
- implement appropriate technical and organizational measures to protect the Confidential Information in compliance with applicable data protection laws, including GDPR;
- maintain these obligations for a period of 5 years following termination of their involvement in the Community of Experts or Community Advisory Board.
Exceptions apply where disclosure is required by law, regulation, or court order, provided that the receiving party promptly notifies the disclosing party prior to such disclosure.
Personal data will be processed in accordance with applicable data protection legislation, including the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).
You authorize the use of your name, biography, and photo provided upon joining the Community Advisory Board for Social Media Campaigns and permit their association with the Compass AI project.
