The new European Commission funding programme, Horizon 2020, will run from 2014-2020 and will integrate the European research Framework Programme (FP), Competitiveness & Innovation Programme (CIP) as well as the European Institute of Innovation and Technology (EIT).
The overall proposed budget will be € 80 billion which will be divided between three distinct, yet mutually reinforcing, priorities:
- Excellent Science
- Industrial Leadership
- Societal Challenges
Of particular interest to EIBIR members, of the total Horizon 2020 budget, around € 6.8 billion has been committed to fund “Health, demographic change and wellbeing” research which is one of the seven challenges of the Societal Challenges pillar of Horizon 2020.
For the calls in 2014 in “Health, demographic change and wellbeing”, around € 550 million is envisaged.
The first call for proposals was launched on 11th December. Calls were opened for the first two years of the programme (2014 and 2015). You can learn about the calls relevant to the biomedical imaging community here and the submission deadlines.
Further information is also available from the re-designed European Commission Participant Portal.
