The “No Cuts On Research” online petition was a campaign, coordinated by the Initiative for Science in Europe (ISE), which was aimed at safeguarding research funds in the negotiations on the EU budget for the period 2014-20.
With over 153,000 signatories it represents the largest petition to date with a science cause in Europe if not worldwide. The list of signatures was handed over to the three EU presidents and the French president.
The outcome of this petition is that the budget for Horizon 2020 will now represent “a real growth compared to 2013 level”. This outcome is a significant success considering the current difficult political environment and the severe constraints which have been placed on the budgets in many European countries.
