Euro-BioImaging
Euro-BioImaging: European Research Infrastructure for Imaging Technologies in Biological and Biomedical Sciences (www.eurobioimaging.eu)
A project on the roadmap of the European Strategy Forum for Research Infrastructures (ESFRI), jointly coordinated by EMBL and EIBIR.
The ESFRI Roadmap describes the scientific needs for Research Infrastructures and includes input from inter-governmental research organisations and industry. 44 projects are on the Roadmap 2008, including 10 projects in the field of Biological and Medical Sciences, among them Euro-BioImaging. Aims of Euro-BioImaging
- to bring together key research areas in biomedical imaging from basic biological imaging with Advanced Light Microscopy, via Molecular Imaging of cells and animals up to the clinical and epidemiological level with Medical Imaging
- To create a coordinated and harmonised plan for
imaging infrastructure deployment in Europe
- To provide access to state of the art imaging technologies, training and a continuous development of imaging research technologies.
- To provide the technology for multidisciplinary projects and to enable basic research, diagnosis, therapy and drug design
Aims of the Preparatory Phase
- Find committment from national biomedical imaging research communities
- Ensure earmarking of national research budgets & secure funding for preparatory phase
- Define the legal and govermental framework for construction and operation
- Develop an overall business plan
Timeline and estimated costs
- Estimated start of preparatory phase (EC funding) late 2010/early 2011.
- Start of the four-year construction phase (funding from member states): 2013
- Start of operation phase
